Thread: Need some advice

    Post Need some advice

Need some help. I have a friend that wants me to look at a machine his company has stored with the prospects of his putting a bid in for it. It is a Lagun FT-1 with a 208 Vac motor on it. It looks to be in fairly good shape on the outside with the exception of the ways which are pretty rusty. The machine is listed on the Lagun web site http://www.lagun.com/millingmachines/ft1.html

I would have no idea how to give his a price estimate. Any ideas?

    Thanks everyone.

Lagun are respected achines. If the guy has had it stored in his place he must have an idea what it is worth already. If the unit has chromed ways the rust is a minor problem, if the machine is still smooth and does not jam when the handles are operated, the ways don't looked scored, abd it appears to be in one piece - buy it and worry about it later. They are about $15K new up here (Canada) - in comparision a Haas toolroom CNC machine can be purchased new for just under $20K anywhere in North America - far sweeter deal in my books.

    Thrud,

Thanks for the incite. I have not seen the machine so have no idea if everything mechanically works. I guess I will find out.

I can't speak to the condition of this particular machine but I can tell you this. I bought a Lagun FT.1 new in 1977, the first new machine tool I ever bought, and this machine is now one of my best friends. I bought a new Seiki milling machine in 1999 and the Lagun is a better machine by far.
