Thread: Cheap and easy R8 collet holder

Default Cheap and easy R8 collet holder

I recently bought a set of 25 R8 collets and was thinking of making a simple holder. While scrounging in the garage I noticed the collect would fit nicely in a piece of PVC pipe. A 10' piece of PVC (I think it is 1 1/2") cut into about 3.5" long pieces and about an hour later and now I have a compact holder for my collets. I used a couple of scraps of plywood to make a right angle jig and then glued the pieces together with PVC cement. A bonus is that it fits easily in the large drawer of my tool box.

Nice idea. I never thought of using PVC cement that way. Another item on the list of things to do.

Very cool! And when you need more holders, it's easily expandable, too.

    Thumbs up

Nice idea, you could probaly stagger in a fe piece of larger pipe to expand the spacing for larger tools like boring heads and slitting saw arbors.
I just need one more tool, just one!

Great idea. I would take it a step further and make a clear plastic cover for your collet holder. A cover will keep dirt and moiture away from your collets.
They will look like new for a very long time.

Below is a 5C collet holder that has a Lexan plastic lid.
