    Default tool holders

My introduction into lathe work was with the old lantern type tool holders, and it was impressed upon me to set up such that if the tool was forced away from the direction of cut it would not hog in to the work, but would swing away from it. I try to follow that same principal with qc tool and 4way,
tho it is not always convenient.

From many of the pictures on here, it appears that many setups would definately hog in if that happened. Am I just miss-reading the pictures, or is this not an issue with the newer type tool holders?

I also dont recall reading any advice for the newbies this, in the archives, so am curious what the concensus is.

I don't even worry about it with my turret type post on my 14X40.
It's about 10 times more ridgid than the lanterns I used to have on my ol' SB's.
With them...you HAD to be ready for a slip every now and then.
I'm prolly breaking yet another rule but it's never been an issue with this machine.
And I don't baby it one bit...it gets pushed as hard as it will go all the time.
    I have tools I don't even know I own...
