New member intro with a question.

I was turned on to this site by the folks at The Practical Machinist forum. I am the definition of a Jack, in both senses of the term It seems like I'm workin on just about everything all the time,trying to save a buck,or just to see if I can do it.
So for the question,I just ordered a tactical light for my paintball gun and realized that it will most likely come set up for a standard site rail.My gun has Picatinny rails??? Has anyone here machined ther own adaptor,have any pics,or suggestions on mounting it up?
I'd appreciate any feedback on the subject,

Welcome to the insanity, JND. The Picatinney rail is a Weaver done to government specs, with the width and depth of the cross slots bigger than Weaver, and with the spacing on them at a know distance. Also, the angles on either side are held to close tolerances, unlike Weaver and Weaver-type bases and rings. You can (usually) put a Weaver ring on a Picatinney rail, but not always the opposite. I apprieciate the info.I read the link you posted and it appears that I was getting worried for nothing.I was under the impression that the Picatinny rail was some sort of propriatary system that would require an adaptor to be functional.

Well,the light showed up today with a nice suprise.It fits right on the picatinny rail,and came with a nice barrell adapter.It has a powerful light,lazer,and can switch between the two with the control of a nice finger switch. Here's a pic of the gun in it's stock formation,with the light.It can be altered to resemble just about any military rifle.
