    Default Miller 350P Welder

Any thoughts or expierences with the Miller 350P welder? Anyone had expierence with the pulse spray on these? How significant is the difference between 3 phase and single phase welders? I've got access to a 3-phase welder, but I don't use it enough or on heavy enough material to notice a major difference. A litle bit smoother arcs and a little less stuborn...

I'm doing a little research for my BIL - he's looking to buy a new welder and I mentioned that 3-phase might be the way to go. He often welds very heavy stuff. 1" thick etc - Tried to get him to spring for one of the big industrial units rated for that kind of work but it may be a little too pricey.

Really nice machine. Great pulsing, blows the XMT-304 out of the water. But pulsing is not needed for most work. Great for aluminum and overhead steel welding.

3 Phase welders do run smoother than single phase. They have a smoother DC with less ripple. But that does not matter with and inverter based machine like the 350P. 3 phase will only make a difference on a transformer based machine.

350 amps is a bit small for doing an significant amount of work on 1". If I was him I would pick up an old 600 amp 3 phase machine like a Lincoln DC-600, R3S-600, or a Miller MP-65E. They can be had for cheap. We often sold those old machines for around $500 without a feeder.

There is a Miller 3-phase mig listed on craigslist North Mississippi for $350.

Thanks! I passed the word along to my brother-in-law. They do have a 600 amp stick welder, but it doesn't get used to often. Most of the time its just multiple passes with a MIG. I prefer the stick, myself, but the MIG is alot "cleaner" - you don't have all the slag to sweep off the floor when your done

I think he's going to go with that 350P.
