What size rotary table?

When I bought my first Bridgeport it came with a ten inch Enco rotary table with a 12 X 18 X 1.5 inch Well used Al tooling plate attached. It is heavy and consequently it has not been used a lot. I had never seen and therefore never thought much about a smaller rotary table. I saw one recently that was about 6 inch. that looked like it would be very easy to use. A quick look in the Enco catalog shows a Phase two for a couple hundred Dollars. What size brand and quality are you using and what would your reccomendations be?

There is no perfect size.
On my bridgeport, I use a 6 inch atlas, a 8 inch palmgren and a 12 inch NEWS ( Yuasa)
I use the smallest one that works, for the level of accuracy I want

I would say a 8 inch should work for most

Depends on your back - or if you have a small jib-crane next to your mill

I had a 18" Troyke that would exceed the table load on a lot of mills. Then a 6" phase II and now I'm happy with my 12" Yusa (but I have to think about it before picking it up)

To eliminate the grunting and groaning when switching from my vise to my 9" Troyke rotary table, or vise versa, I have a roll around cabinet for mill tooling that has a 1/4" plate steel top. When it's time to switch, crank the table to cabinet height and slide. It also solves the "Where do I keep this when it's not on the mill?"

I'm too old to have another hernia operation!
