    Default Optical Comparator

Looking for a used optical comparator. Would prefer either a bench top or floor model up to about 14". Am looking to spend about $2000. Lots on Ebay, but anything good going for 4000 +. Have seen some nice units go at auction for under 2000$. Any suggestions on places to look?

I got pretty good service out of my 10" Micro Vu a minimalist comparator consisting of a fiberglass enclosure optic, screen, and an aluminum 3 axis stage. I used it for tool profile, snall part inspecition. Measurement is via two travel indicators and the screen protractor.

Just biught a 12" Micro Vu same config but w/o stage attachhments for $310 off ebay. I need to get a different screen for it. They're availabl for $250 or so. Irony.

Before that I used parts from a slide projector on a bracket aimed past my mill table at a white panel with fish line stretched to make crosshairs. I used the mill table as a comparator stage. Of course this wouldn't work during daylight.

I don't know what your application is but maybe you're setting your sights too high.

Well would like something with a DRO. Like the Mitutoyo 350 or 3500...missed a 3500 go for 1400$ at an auction recently.

If you are doing flat objects smaller than office paper, consider using a flatbed scanner. It can be easily calibrated using known objects and it will cost less thant $100.

I have one I would be glad to give you. It is a 14" (I think) Excello. Problem is you would need to pick it up. It weighs about a ton and is located in northeast Arkansas. Has a Heidenhein DRO with one damaged scale and the optics need cleaning.

Will scrap it soon if no one wants it.

How far Northeast? My In-laws live in Clarendon, and we're making a trip there next month...

    Paragould.

It is on a skid in the garage, I have no way to move it except for a pinch bar.

Still available for a week or so. Ex-Cell-O Model 14-814.

Lazlo may not come to Arkansas before I have to scrap it.

    Lazlo

I can't comment on the condition of the offered Excello but I can vouch for the Excello shadowgraph in general. I used them or their predecessors (Kodak) for 50 years while in the trade. Every shop that I worked in had at least one, can be highly accurate if taken care of and will last a lifetime. It is especially versatile if it has the lens turret ,with all the lenses, and the vertical projection accessory.
