Default Need some help IDing this thing - hydraulic pump

I got this in an auction lot from KO Lee's maintenance department. I'm thinking it's probably a power unit from a snowplow?

Any ideas where I can find some info on it? Anyone happen to have a manual?

Hmm, I thought J.S. Barnes was still a separate company though I haven't kept track the last 5 years. Have you tried to google them for a trace on pump information?

Barnes was bought by some other outfit, and I have some info on the pump on my other computer (not the specific model, but some in the same series). I'm more curious about the motor and if it's likely to be 12/24/48 volt?

Other than putting power to it and hoping it doesn't get smoked from too much current, I'm not sure what the thing should ohm out at or what. Looks too small for a forklift.

Looks about the right size for a power tail-gate (Tommy) or snow-plow lift. You couldn't easily damage it by trying 12 volts on it. You will not be able to tell anything by any ohmmeter readings. Be sure the pump has some oil for lubrication before running it.

Yeah, that's another possible source (tommy lift) I hadn't thought of. There was a lot of odd crap in that area of the plant.

I have been doing installs for ten years with the same co. and we deal with tommy gates and I do not beleive that this is one of theirs , not like any that I have ever seen anyway .

Auto-lite hasn't been making anything but spark plugs for the past 30+ years, so that gives you some idea how long it's been sitting on the shelf.

I pulled a bunch of odd stuff out of that joint in this lot of shelving. I only spent $20 on the whole lot and got a Walker automatic chuck controller for a surface grinder out of it - not to mention all the shelving that I wanted for my shop (which is what this thing is pictured sitting on).

That's a starter motor. Ideal for it's adaptation, high torque, intermittant use. 12vDC
