Default Portable power, weed whacker with HSM attachements??

    Portable power??
Well I shopped for a weed whacker today. totally upset at my choice.. I bought one like the previous one from Stihl so I thought.. go it home and the Spool which holds the cutter line is a POS.. I called the guy I gave the old one too trying to beg him to swap with me the spool..

BUT.. there was a Toro trimmer, it had a tiny garden Cultivator, limb saw, weed whacker, and many other attachments for it..

I was taking a nap and had the idea to hook one of them chevy-one wire altenators to the rascal.. man that'd boost a old hot rod off.. Looking down the power coupling it had a simple square drive. Anyone with a proper machine shop could build tools to run off it.. paint stirrers, vibrator shakers to go on a "apple tree".. A minibike-or skateboard to ride around events, and the HSM list goes on..

I regret not purchasing one of THEM that takes the attachments, it was the same cost.

Instead, I get to sit and rewind silly string to whack weeds.. and regret my choice..
    Excuse me, I farted.

David,I bought a Sears propane powered weed wacker, one with the split shaft that also has all sorts of attachments.Campstove cylinder fits in it,no gas to mix or go bad.So far I like it,I don't like the string heads,I also bought one of the Gator heads that uses three plastic blades kinda like a bush hog.

I either use the Gator blade or a 9" carbide saw blade, string just don't cut Mississippi weeds
I just need one more tool, just one!

I recently bought a Ryobi 30cc, you can split the shaft and stick a hedgecutter on or a pruner that looks like a baby chainsaw, works well and has elevtric start via an 18volt batt as well as pull cord, my old sthil fell to bits but i'm glad really as it was getting to be a pig to start and i'm no 2 stroke expert
[I would like a concrete vib but not sure how, any suggestions?]

Bob.. that could be just a stick of cheap conduit, a drive shaft, and a large "bulb" there on the end with a half-larger bob weight.

Yeah, that'd be pretty cool.. I used one last time we poured a duct bank full of conduits.. the concrete never got wet enough to flow in around the pipes.. Even thou I added about all the water he had on the truck.

Heck, they might sell.. you do know the chinese watch these boards..
    Excuse me, I farted.

Funny this topic has been a peeve of mine last week.......I bought a cheap Weedeater from Wallyworld 15 years ago and this spring I finally decided that was it and was gonna get a good straight shaft model so I could use a blade for rough stuff. I ended up getting a 31cc MTD used it 3 times and it's down, wife was using it and said it just quit, I checked fuel and spark, when I pulled the plug there was some shiny marks on top of the piston like something went through and now it has 1/2 the compression of previous. This thing might have 1 hour total on it. So now it's in for warranty work and there should be snow on the ground by the time I get it back.

I had regretted not getting a Stihl but have read that their new stuff isn't what it used to be........I'm getting tired of that story........

Well most of them like the mower decks are made by the same company no matter what name is on the box.
Here is the biggest problem with the new generation wackers.

This was the worst Idea ever, I bought a rebuilt Royobi split shaft at LHFS as they had them on sale for $49.99 plus a 25% coupon. Had to call warranty, about the string and the fact the gas was leaking out of the tubing and shooting everywhere.
They sent the parts right out and they are getting a lot of complaints about the heads they had a kit already bagged up old style, head ,spool and two different bump knob screws.

The guy I talked to said those heads were creating a problem on all the brands that use them.

New one is the front one the original one is the back, the attachments fit both and a couple of the other brands that had the attachments.

I have picked up most of the attachments other then the snow blower. Useless other then for steps, I have hooked two of the limb saw arms so I can get higher in to the tree while still on the ground. # makes it to heavy and hard to work. The rough wood or pruning saw blades like from Milwaukee. will work in the saw head.

I'm going to drill holes in the slotted head and put brass eyelets in and keep it for a spare.

You can pick up the attachments at sales yard or flea market cheap. The blower works pretty good, the vac is a pain as the bag gets full fast, it does work well with a hose going to a cloth bag that fits over the garbage cans to blow it in to. The edger is great you can use the generic edger blades it they fit the shaft. The roto tiller is also great, it is better than a small foot print 12"wide Honda 4 cycle. that my fathers neighbor talked him in to buying.
The saw blade works on light small dia stuff, but I find I can move faster and cut more with a ratcheting lopper

I love mine and I have the old power head still works, and a new one.
