    Default My new milling machine

OK, Not the kind of mill you are thinking but I can remove nanometers at a time with this one!

Its an old Focused Ion Beam (FIB) Milling machine. Mostly got it for the vacuum system. Has a 6" Diffusion pump with trap and all the plumbing to go with it. Also Dual thermocouple gauges and an ion gauge.

    Cool unit!
I figure nano-chips are a lot less messy at clean up time.

It goes in the center of the chamber on a small mount. Maybe 3/8" in diameter. Has a small gear motor that allows you to spin the part as well. Ion Lathe???

Its an old machine, probably one of the earlier commercial machines I am guessing. I have not seen a date anywhere on it yet.

Wiki has a little about these machines, but it applies more to the newer machines than this one. I got it as a vacuum source to do neon and plasma stuff.

Hey Macona ... if you need any vacuum goodies - flanges, etc - you might drop me a pm. I might be able to scrounge up some surplus stuff and pay you back for the feedthrough you sent me...
