The adjustable Tool Holder looks like the design I worked with the late Art Volz for shapers. I silver soldered the end on my unit.

Very nice work Lane, and I enjoyed following your thread on the restoration of that shaper VERY much. Thanks so much for sharing !

I have that question also. I'm going to guess he used the shaper, if not then a square broach. How about it Lane?![]()

No how about a drilled hole and some good square files. About 1 1/2 hours of file work on each hole.Originally Posted by Jack F

That is some very nice file-work, those are some great looking holders.
I did a small square hardy hole through a RR track anvil and have no desire to replicate the experience, I plan on using these next time I need a square hole: http://www1.mscdirect.com/eCommerce/...g+Bar+Adapters
Probably cost less than the new files.
Lane,
Nice file work was an understatement, you must have the arms of a gorilla. Using a drilled hole and a file did occur to me but I soon dismissed that as a choice. I agree, nice (outstanding) file work.

The vice bins are a nice idea. Maybe we should have a Chip Control thread?
I am building a very small air compressor. Not sure if it will be a legit useful tool, but should work. I've only finished the cylinder bore and piston blank so there's not much to look at.

I cannot say with 100% certainty, but I strongly suspect the radius is there to reduce stress and to decrease the likelihood of cracking during heat treatment.Originally Posted by flutedchamber
