How do you keep water out of the oil?

Nice work on that taper attachment Davo J. I like that knurled adjustment handle.

I got inspired by this third hand welding:

After using an improvised version I made one with scrap laying around. That's a great helper. Thanks for the tip

I wish I could take credit for it, but Rob Wilson was the machinist that made it.

Totally agree, Rob has done some really great stuff and posted it on that forum. The work is a credit to him.

My plan is to make a telescopic screw for the lead screw.

    Dave,

    Here's another view.

The lower slide is composed of flat bars, surface ground and bolted together to form square ways. The upper slide is similarly done. Since there's no tendency for the upper slide follower (or whatever it's called) to lift, I figured that a dovetail wasn't necessary. I don't see how dovetails would perform any better, and grinding them would have been very challenging with the equipment I had access to. I chose the easy way.

Speaking of challenges, building a telescoping lead screw sounds like a good one. I'll be eager to see what you come up with. Good luck!

Default Handles and Jig to Fabricate them

Had many of these to make and decided to jig up to do so the photos should be self explanatory.
