    Over the southeast and the Atlantic Ocean:



    The area is covered by a large high pressure system.

    I'll bet you there's a bigger one over British Columbia, and more accurate............

    It's a long string of clouds along a pressure gradient but that doesn't make it a Mare's Tail cloud. To qualify as a Mare's Tail the clouds must be cirrus clouds at an altitude of 4 to 8 miles. They are also small individual clouds that are very thin because they are composed of ice crystals. They don't cover bands 200 miles wide with a complete overcast. That image is taken in infrared and does not show what the visible clouds look like. It is actually a temperature map of the atmosphere.

    it's clearly not a mare's tail, that would imply a horse of quite another color.........
