    Default Lincoln PowerMig problems (macona??)

I have a Lincoln PowerMig 216. It'll be running along just fine, then just stop. A quick cycle of the power switch restarts it. By just stop, I mean that it no longer welds when the button is pushed, the fan keeps running inside.

I was hoping it was something simple like the wand switch, but given the power switch cycle working to reset it, I'm guessing it's not so simple.

Any ideas? How much is this problem going to cost me?

Further explanation. By running along just fine, I mean I'll be mid weld when it quits. Then it takes a cycle of the power switch to reset it.

If a power cycle is reseting it then its not the gun switch and something inside. Could be something like a thermal sensor but I doubt it. Probably a bad board.

It COULD be the gun switch. It stops, you cycle the power, you obviously reset what you are doing physically in the process and get a new grip on the gun switch which just happens to start working again after the power cycle. I doubt it's that simple but I'd make darn sure first before I tear into boards and whatnot.

I have never, ever seen a gun switch cause a problem like this.

Open the machine up and unplug and reinsert all the cables. Might be worth a try.

Dont know how much it will cost. I no longer have access to pricing.

My Lincoln had a three year warranty on it. If it's not all that old get it serviced.

Snowman, I have a Powermig 215 great machine, sorry to see you are having problems.
The 216 is a fairly new model, hasn't been out very long, it should still be under warranty. Lincoln's warranty is three years, don't think the 216 has been out that long but I'm not positive.
Give a Lincoln dealer a call before you pull out your checkbook.
