Default Enco 10x24 lathe missing parts

I just recently purchased an Enco 10x24 lathe built in 1986. It has a brand new 2 hp Dayton motor on it, new bearings, new drum switch and a few other items so for $350 I figured it wasn't a bad price. This poor thing however has had a tough life and now I'm trying to bring it back into decent shape. There are some knobs missing and some of the levers are gone.

I'll post some pictures as soon as I get them shrunk down a bit.

One of the more urgent needs I have is for pictures and measurements of the Lead and Feed gearbox shift lever mechanisms. The fork and dog that actuates the sliding gear to engage the lead and feed gears.
The other item of concern is for the spur gear that is used in the lead and feed reversing. There are two gears, one is 30 tooth while the other is 25 tooth. I am missing the 30 tooth gear and need to replace it.
Alanganes posted a picture of his Jet 10x24p on 11/26/2009 that shows exactly the gear I'm missing.

Reading through this forum has been a huge help already as I am new to metal machining. While I have been welding for quite some time as a hobbiest, this is my first lathe. I have a small 15 acre ranch and farm with old junk so I am constantly in need of shafts that need turning, spacers made, shims, etc. This will now be a lot easier to do.

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

    Glenn.

    Default just like mine

I have an Enco 10x24 of the same vintage.
All mine needs is one small gear in the QC box. I never found a replacement.
Ought to just make one I suppose.

There was one on CL recently in North Texas.
    Would that be yours?

Yes, that would be the one I bought. It was out of Granbury, just south of Fort Worth.
I talked to the people from Jet about parts for the 10X24P which looks like the identical machine and they told me to contact Houtson Gear as they may have the gear or they can make one. I am a little hesitant as the cost for having one made may be unreasonable considering the machine age and the price I paid for it.

The quill gear is damaged on the right pretty badly. The left part isn't all that bad. I've thought of taking it to a local machine shop here to see if they can rebuild the teeth on the right. I think someone ran the carriage into the chuck and stripped some gear teeth.

I have a kind of dumb question.....chaulk it up to being a newbie here. With a reversing motor on the back, why would one need the reverse gearing that the spur gears we are missing provides? Am I missing something or is this duplication, having reverse motor and reverse gearing?

Oh, one other thing. Do you have an original Enco manual for yours. The one I got is generic to Enco, Jet, Grizzly, etc. I'm also missing the steady rest and follower rests. If you know of anyone parting one of these out I'd like to contact them.

Where in Texas are you located?

I never did find a source for those gears. They are metric. Martin Gear and the like could possibly be a source, but I was never able to determine which of their products was correct. Luckily the damaged gear was non-essential to my needs.

I'm not sure what you are calling the Quill gear. Would that be the carriage rack under the near bed way?

The manual I have was downloaded. It's not exact, but it's close enough.

I'm in Keller, the shop is in Azle. I get out there once a week or so. If you want to come take a look at my lathe sometime, drop me a note to burkheimer@gmail.com

I have a 10 x 24 that was sold under the select name. It is even older (it doesn't have a feed rod but feeds off of a keyed leadscrew). But this is what I think I am seeing. It looks like the import machines have not changed much. So when I needed parts for the Threading half-nuts, I checked Grizzly, and the G9249 has some of the parts that will still work on my 10x24. So, I would bet that the gears have not changed. Especially the gears on the reversing banjo. I would try one and see if it fits.

    Default Tumbler Gears?

I think Glenn may talking about the Tumbler set?

So that the lead screw is reversed, to cut left hand threads or feeds.
