Lathe close to me on CL for sale by lady. Anyone know what lathe this is by the pic and an estimated weight?

That looks like your basic Chinese import. Weight will be 1200 to 1800 pounds.

Another lathe close to me. This one is bigger than what I am looking for but the price seems good. Anyone have any info for me like weight of this machine and over all size? Good machine? To big for common projects?

You're taking on a project if you buy a pre WWII lathe.

Some would bite your hand off, but make sure you're equipped and financed to bring the lathe up to standard if it's worn. You'll probably be able to machine from the start, but wear might produce chatter, poor tolerances and frustration.

It's the forerunner of a very highly regarded machine.

Do you have the electric set-up to run the Monarch? 5HP 3 phase, needs a 10HP converter. I've played with some of those monsters at work, they draw some power on start-up.

Yeah the #6000 and 10hp converter don't sound like fun.

I'd say that you are very close. My neighbor machinist friend has a 20" X 72" Monarch lathe that weighs 8,000 pounds according to the shipping company. That's a lot of iron in one place!

Yeah I don't think my next lathe will be much over 2000#.

Another one! From everything I read this is perfect size for me! However it is a bare machine with no tooling which I know can cost me ALLOT later on.

But I want to know, is this a babbit headstock? estimated motor hp? Also doesn't look like allot of feed speed options. Please let me know what you know about this lathe, the good, the bad, and other stuff. The lathe has been on ebay for over a month.
