Remmington 16" electric chainsaw
I've run into a problem, I have an old 16" electric chainsaw that I was using to cut a stump down. After cutting the stump I was cutting it down to manageable sizes when I smelled smoke. I thought the chain was getting hot and stopped but then noticed smoke wisping from the vents on the chainsaw.
I let it cool and tried to start it but nothing. I took apart the motor to look for anything obviously wrong but nothing looks burnt up or melted. Any suggestions as to what to look at for a fix or if its worth repairing.
Thanks, Jim Doherty

How well did you look over the brush holders? On cheaper tools, I've seen them get too hot and melt the plastic and then they don't move properly. It might be a good thing to check.

There are two things to remember about those Remington saws. You have to keep the chain sharp, they don't have the power of gas saw, so that will over heat them. The other thing about (at least mine) is the chain tends to tighten up as the saw warms up. This will also put extra load on the motor. The scary part is if the chain is tensioned while hot, it will be very loose cold. Use with care and it will warm up quickly. I've cut a lot of wood with mine. The best part is when used in a lift, you don't have to contend with a running saw engine.

I had one of those Remingtons for 20 years before it finally did what yours did. Too beat up to fix, had to scrap it, replaced with one from Home Despot which I doubt will last nearly as long.
