I thought this was a home shop machinist site, not a gab fest.

Tons of semi off topic question posts by TMT's and others.

What ifs, and what would you do with a XYX if you had one, seem a bit over the top...

A off topic section (which would be ignored by me) would keep the guys trying for 30 zillion posts happy...

Quality not quantity for me thanks... When posted 6 0f 20 posts were marked OT, and a couple more would fall in OT catagory in my book.

Sucking all the air out of the room? Or just filling a void? I suspect the latter. I doubt that the O.T. threads are displacing legitimate Machine threads. Things slow down in the (northern hemisphere) summer. Seems like those down under need to fill the gap.

I'd think the website profits from any post that generates views and participation. I've posted my share, because I know there are people here with a wide range of experiences. I respect their input on machining topics, and I feel sure they'll give worthwhile info and opinions on other topics, too.

I almost always find the OT posts interesting and enjoyable. I have the option of not looking at them, if I'm not in the mood.

Along with what Evan said let me add that, just wait until September when our shops cool down and a slight chill hits the air and you'l see the projects come flying out of our shops like crazy! I plan on building an articulating mount for the shops HDTV so I can point it in any direction in the shop for when I'm busy building things. Also got to add those two other channels to the Dolby 5.1 system as three just ain't cutting it. When all that is set, I'll be poised to make anything I want, just searching now for worthy projects. When I find them, there will be pictures galore and measured drawings. I'll have my scripts read over by a professional editor for your reading enjoyment I wonder what other projects our guys have in mind

I liken this place to a McDonalds Restaurant in the morning about 10 AM when all the retirees show up to read the paper, drink coffee and kibitz amongst themselves. It's just conversation to start the day with. Look on the far right column and you'll see that OT post or not, there is a lot of interest from the lurkers. And, if you count them up, if it weren't for the OT post there would only be about 6 current machining topics on the board.

But Bguns, you're right. Would be nice if we had a few more machining post. THE REST OF YOU GUYS GET BUSY.......BUNCH OF MAMBY PAMBY......ANYBODY WANT A TISSUE?

I agree 100% with this. I have posted OT before, and have been overwhelmed with the generosity and knowledge people here have about many things. Since I'm not any where as smart as many here, I can't respond to many, but when I can offer something contrsctive, I do so freely. It's one of the best sites I go to each day.

If an OT post offends you, don't open it. It's that simple.

Agreed, too many, "What if.." posts and most of them whimsical, not practical. Just because it's a slow time of year, doesn't mean we should fill the board with O.T.
