Rem 1100 - How the H?? to fix rib

Trying to reattach the front 2 posts on the rib of a Rem 1100 -
Lead solder would not hold, nor silver solder or even braze -
Sticks to barrel fine, but rib just pops off with no adhesion -
Any thoughts....please....

Are you using enough flux?

Are you sure it's a factory rib? All of them I'm familiar with were induction welded to the barrel. Worst case, you can get a long shank front sight bead and drill and tap into the bore, then fit the bead to the barrel and rib with Loctite, and dress it off to match the interior of the bore.

Another thought, you might be getting the rib too hot for the solder to stick. Or not using enough or the right type of flux.

Use Locktite Black Max, you can get it from Brownells, here is a link:

It is my understanding from some research I did a while back (sorry can't find those links) that Benelli or Beretta, maybe Browning were using this to install their ribs on their new guns...

I would use a folded piece of wet or dry (dry) clean up both parts, hit is some denatured alchol to remove any signs of oil or grit then glue it down the the black max and lightly clamp it. Leave it 48 hours and that should take care of it.

Black Max is wonderful stuff, but only if you have enough surface area for it to work on. Many posts on ribs are hollow, leaving you only a small amount of surface for the Black Max to grab onto.
