drawbar for lathe
I have just purchased a drawbar for my lathe. The previous owner of this said it is for a Smart and Brown lathe and added quite a large one which most of you will remember I bought with Ragarse and Thruds help earlier this year.
He sold it to me very reasonably so even though I was not absolutely certain (although reasonably) sure it was for my model I took the chance.
It is twenty inches long with a bearing fitted at the handle end were the handle meets the shaft, the other end which fits the collets is naturally threaded. I measured my lathe and the distance between the spindle from rear to front internally was about twenty four inches. So this I felt was about right allowing space for the collet itself. The drawbar has an internal thread very fine on the end of the shaft at the collet end as one would expect. How can I tell which thread this is actually I don't think this in itself will be too difficult, but are collets all standard threaded at their ends? And if not How will I best be able to check this with regard to actual size of collets needed? Incidentally all sizes are nominal Hope this is clear. Alistair
Please excuse my typing as I have a form of parkinsons disease
