I need to make a reverse drive gear box for my snow blower, in a quandary as to type should I use 2 gears, or 3 sprockets and chain. Had a quote for 2 gears and almost died $2,800.00, the gears I had quoted were 10 pitch 20 and 40 tooth 1" thick 3/4" bore, any body know where I can get cheaper gears.

Almost to your specification:
You would have to bush the 40 tooth gear.

These are for finished bores (keyway and set screw). Prices are about a third cheaper if you get plain bores.

Well I have the blower already and you don't find many 48" 2 stage that mount on the front of my Kubota, well it didn't fit when I got it but it does now, ran it hydraulically last year but too much slippage and heat build up even when its 10°F outside. Have a center PTO that can run up to 2,000RPM thats why I need a gear box and the PTO turns the wrong direction.
