No you can't weld it that way.

Yes, it is weldable with an O/A torch. Use the proper flux and TIG filler rod. If not near a welding supply, Tinman sells this flux for stainless. His products are excellent and reasonably priced.

He brushed the bead, which means he probably sugared (overheated) it, and it came out flat grey (not good!). That's why welding inspectors insist on seeing the weld before you brush it -- you must have the rainbow oxides which show that you didn't cook it.Originally Posted by Hogridnfool
It takes some practice. This is 10 gage 304 stainless with TIG:
Lap joint, same material/thickness. Colors are a bit washed-out by the flash, but you get the idea:

HERE is a copy of Chapter 18 from the Linde Oxy-Acetylene Handbook that was referenced in the linked thread.
I see you didn't get the heat shield in you kit either.Originally Posted by oldtiffie

They provide very good support here in OZ.
Its a good kit. I use mine instead of my standard O/A kit and it saved me buying a TIG set and so saved me floor space and another rental bottle (for TIG).
Nice kit, what are the trigger looking things on the handle for?
