I have to make a bronze bushing for a 10 stage high lift water pump. The pump has a 1.5" stainless steel shaft and will be running in water. No other lubrication. I'm thinking 1-2K clearance on the bore. Yes??? No??? maybe???

I manufactured and rebuilt them for years. I would go for the .013 .
Vertical turbine pumps are made with .006 to .013 clearance depending on the
manufacturer.
OD on the bushing is usually .002 to .004 press
most pumps run at 1800 RPM
Use a SAE 660 bearing bronze. SAE 664 bearing bronze is softer and will collapse more when pressed into the hole.
re- boring the holes is not necessary with SAE 660
If it has closed impellers the wear rings use .016 min up to .025 max.

JS.....thanks for that reply. After posting this question I found a chart from Anchor Bronze that showed a clearance of .0015-.004.

After reading your reply, obviously this would be not enough in this application. I will go with your years of experience. Thanks again
