    Default Involute Gear Cutters

I'm looking for a source for some involute gear cutters. Cost is an issue

I need the following cutter numbers and would prefer 20 degree pressure angle, 32 pitch. This is not a strict requirement since I will be making all of the needed gears.

    No. 1
    No. 2
    No. 4

    Thanks!

Are you sure about the pitch? That is a pretty fine gear.

    http://www.fdtool.com/cubecart/index.php?_a=gearcutters

Don't know about $$$, I am not at the stage to get such yet.

I also usually check http://www.victornet.com/ but right now it looks like they don't go to that pitch (I could easily miss something though...)

traverscanada catalog shows them starting with # 10-289-321 and going to ...-328 (I gave the codes since a page # could be different, 2010 catalog: shows them at $82.72 CDN (its about 98 cents); got some in a local catalog but the section doesn't use mfg names so no good to you...

Yep - I'm cutting the gears for the "clock work" in an orrery.

    SO ... is a 0.6 module the same as a 32 dp?

Don't know if you want to venture onto EBay but there have been some very fine cutters there the last couple three days, but IIRC most were being sold either as "sets" (not sure how they define it) or as part of larger groupings (lathe, collets etc.) and I am not at all sure they were for even cutting gears...though I am not sure what else would be that small/fine.

Just checked, jrwoodca store has some shown as # 1, # 2, #4 and one or two others. They are small, the #4 is like half the diameter of a "AA" battery. He does not give pressure angles or pitches however, just "Swiss" and 50+ y.o.

    Oops - I meant 0.8 mod. Would a 0.8 mod gear mesh with a 32 dp?

To find module when DP is known:

    25.4/DP = module

where 25.4 is the number of mm in 1"

To find DP when module is known:

    25.4/module = DP
