Thread: Cost of heat treating?

    Default Cost of heat treating?

I've never had anything heat treated but I have an Aluminum motorcycle swingarm that has been welded and modified that I would like to get heat treated and aged to T-6 (6061). Rough dimensions are about 12 inches wide, 10 inches tall and 22 inches long. Can anyone give me a ballpark figure as to what this should cost so I am not going in completely blind?

You'll probably end up paying a minimum charge....I just had a small batch of 4 parts heat treated....cost me $75...minimum charge.

    I wouldn't pay more than $100.

Yep, minimum charge is what you'll have to pay. $125 at the place I use.

If the heat treater is friendly, sometimes your work can be lumped in with another customer's. Provided both jobs are the same heat treatment.

Why do you feel that you need it heat treated? It won't change the rigidity of the structure much and if you're worried about threads or pivot points, they can be hardened by adding inserts.
