    Default AT&T "rationed" DSL?

Does anyone else have AT&T DSL?

If you do, have you noticed a regular once or so per hour dropout of service?

About once per hour, service on our DSL drops out for about 4 or 5 minutes. Everything looks OK, but there is no activity, no connection to internet, and all browsers report a lost connection. Mozilla often switches to "offline" mode partway into a dropout.

it appears as if At&T is deliberately doing a "rolling blackout" to stretch their service a little farther. it does not matter if you are using or not using the internet, it may freeze up in the middle of a download.

yes, I am certain this is not a virus, etc, it is definitely at the ISP end of the wire, actual reason unknown.

Just wondering if anyone else has noticed this, or if it may be local to this area only

I have cable internet, but my neighbor has DSL. He recently complained about his service and is considering other alternatives. Dunno specifically about dropouts, but something has recently gone downhill in his service.

I'm on AT&T DSL and have noticed randomly dropping connections but I can reconnect almost immediately. Seems to have started a few months ago.

Don't have DSL,but all the neighbors do which is why I didn't go with DSL.What I was told was the more folks in the hood on it at any given time the less capacity the system has and that's when everybody starts having the same complaint.

Now,with that said I have cable Internet and Tv through Charter.I vehemently hate Charter, but it's the only game in town at the moment that gives 5meg service and it's at the 3meg DSL price with no hiccups or slow downs.

ATT has been advertising U-verse which is supposed to be 6meg Internet, phone and Tv all in one and I am waiting to hear what others think before I jump.
I just need one more tool, just one!

Interesting - north of the border recently a tempest has been brewing
    over Usage-Based Billing (UBB).

A regulator gave approval for service providers to implement UBB only
to have the federal government intervene in the ruling following consumer
    outrage.

I've occasionally had the same problem with Comcast cable internet, a lot in the last two days.

I have AT&T DSL, 5 years now, and have noticed sporadic outages (outrages?) from the beginning. Not so much, lately.

Exactly the same here in North Carolina. I also just received a notice of a price hike from $15 to $20 a month. It started at $10 and has now doubled for the same service. Time to start looking around again.

If the sync light changes status during that time, call the helpdesk.
If you can pull the relevant line noise data off of the modem pull it during those times and during normal times. If there is a difference mention that when you call the helpdesk.
The more data you can give them once you get past the call script they are using, the more info they'll have to route your issue to the right group.

I've had two modems degrade over time in a similar manner to electrolytic capacitors going out on a motherboard. A new modem fixed the issue both times. In another issue, there was something wrong with the port up the street. That took a few repeated calls before I got pushed to the back line folks. They rotated me to an unused port and it was good after that.
