Default Help Wiring 3 Phase Foot Switch

I recently acquired a Delta 17" WW2 vintage. It has a 3 phase motor and a gear reduction. It came with a foot pedal and I can't figure out how it hooks up so that it works properly. The pedal has one lead in and one lead out. There is no contactor or start/stop switch in case it matters. I will try to get pictures tomorrow but any advice would be appreciated.

Its probably a two pole switch. You really only need to switch two of the three lines.

is that one cable in and one cable out? how many wires in cable?? or is it just 2 single wires??? There need to be at least 4 wires in each cable if you don't have a starter (contactor) is there a separate feed motor that is single phase perchance??

macona -- if you forget and went to work on the wiring you would fast change your tune as it would be HOT! not switching ALL the legs not a good idea!!

Its actually very common practice, old machinery and new. I have seen brand new 40 amp, three phase, solid state relays where only two of the three lines are active. The third is just a pass through. My coolant pump on my monarch switched two of three phases as well.

you need a magnetic starter to control this the foot switch controls the starter coil only it had to be fitted this way with the starter mounted somewhere else like on the wall or something you just did,nt get it with the machine good luck jack

You'll really like having a foot pedal on the drill press. Mine's in parallel with the regular switch, so I can use it either way, but I'd say about 99% of the time I use the pedal.

Be safe and get a contactor that interrupts all three legs.
