Default Anyone in "Lower Upstate" NY (Orange, Ulster, Dutchess, etc...)

Heya. I'm moving! (Probably in May.)

I'm leaving Brooklyn behind and heading up to Wallkill NY (about dead center between New Paltz and Newburg.) Is there anyone up there? I'm going to be frequenting a cigar lounge in Fishkill called "Pop's Havana House." (They roll their own and make really stellar cigars.)

All I've got at the moment are a matching pair of the tiny Grizzly miller and lathe. The new space has a big expansion where I'm going to be able to put some higher-grade hardware. Plus, I'm planning on building a foundry in the back yard (assuming Gingery's book is sufficiently instructive.)

Are there places I need to see up there (re: estate sales, junk yards and other "gold mine" picking places?)

First couple cigars are on me.

    Well howdy neighbor...
I am in Gardiner (next town over). there are some yards around here to look at different ones for different wants. not many junk machines show up but lots of materials for projects. I could probably come up with a list.
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it. ..

I'm not too far down the road, Mohegan Lake (on the Westchester/Putnam border).

Nuts...not a long ride for me and up until 11 months ago I smoked 4 or more hand rolled cigars per day. I would have driven over just to enjoy one with any BOTL who also likes to play with machinery. Oh well.

Good luck in your new digs.

I can't wait to get up there so I can at least smoke in my own place. My teeny apartment precludes such decadence.

Nothing quite feels so natural while standing at the lathe as a Garcia hanging out of my mouth.

I do hope you are referring to a Don Jose Pepin Garcia, and not a machine-rolled dog rocket Garcia y Vega!

I used to go through of a lot of the Don Pepin cigars. I was particularly fond of the JJ series. Other favs included Ashton VSG and ESG, Fuente Anejo Reserva and Hemingway, some Perdomo, H. Upmann Vintage Cameroon, and a great many more I can't recall.

Heh. I grew up (insofar as I plan to) in Yorktown. Been down in the city for the last 16 or so years.
