Default Another group buy on OSG taps and dies..

I have been approached by JRouche to see if I can get some more OSG dies and maybe taps...

I am willing to put together another buy but there are some hurdles to over come.

While the dies can be purchased individually, the taps are sold in packs.. Up to 3/8 are packs of 10, 7/16 to 5/8 are packs of 5 and 3/4 and up are packs of 1

So we as a group have to decided on which particular type of tap we want. Doesnt make sense to pick different style unless you want to buy a full pack

If I dont have enough interest in taps, then we dont have to do them, but I am interested in taps as I have nothing but crap.

The 2 styles of tap I am looking at are the Hy-Pro's Din, located on page 249 of their catalog, as these taps cover the most types of materials..

OSG says straight flute for hand tapping, but those type seem to not cover as much material as the Hy-Pro Dins.

Are forming taps wrong for hand tapping?

So, here is the list of dies again. Price reflects ~40% off list.

The best choice of taps for hand tapping these days, IMO, would have to be spiral point taps. Form taps are great, but a little too sensitive to hole size for the average home shop machinist.

The traditional straight, 4-flute hand taps...you can have 'em. I have little or no use for them, and I have plenty.

But take my opinion with a grain of salt, I have all the taps & dies I could use in two lifetimes. Fat chance I'd want ten of ANY size, let alone a half-dozen sizes or more.

If it were up to me, I'd go with the List 250 (inch) and 259 (metric) Hy-Pro DIN taps.

Sounds good. I'll have to wait to see what the interest is (and the final price) for the taps. But I'm in for the dies. JR

FYI, Ebay is literally inundated with NIB OSG taps.
However dies, especially adjustable, are rare, for reasons I've never understood.

Let me check my stash -- I'll be in for several dies.

By the way, I have a bunch of OSG forming (fluteless) taps -- they work great in ductile materials like aluminum.
