    Default Enco Lathe

    Hi All -
I've got a older, 1991, Enco 12 X36 gear head lathe. IT's seen it's fair amount of use, but i'm thinking it probably need gone thru, cleaned and everything tightened back up. I know there is a lot of slack in the carriage, cross-slide and a little in the compound rest. Also there is about .005 run out in the headstock. Is there any Enco Lathe forum for Enco owners to discuss specific problems with Enco lathes? Or, are the Enco lathes so generic in construction that about any lathe rebuild procedure would work on them?
I think this lathe has a lot of potential and, best of all, i don't owe anything on it.

    Thanks,
    Mike

Mike, Its almost certainly got a mating brand of one make or another - Grizz, HF, Wholesale Tool. etc, so there should be some help in the area you need. Would think that the best chance would be to approach the web site dedicated exclusively to the 12x36 imported lathes over at yahoo - its a very active forum. Good luck

Oh and welcome to the group...

If everything seems to be going well, you have obviously overlooked something........

    Mike, My Enco is a 1024, mid-1980s.
When I got it the QC box need a rebuild. There were a few parts - a gear or two - that were impossible to find.
Information and support was pretty much non-existent.
I agree that the Yahoo group is the only forum dedicated to those Asian 12X/13X/14X machines of all ages.

Rex & Bill, Thanks for the link. I've gotten signed up and started reading posts from the beginning. I'm now up to Feb. 9, 2005.

    Thanks again,
    Mike
