there was a two volume set of repro holtz 'ornamental turning' at a local book fair for £2, i'm sorry i didnt buy it!, its still in print as it was apparently a local printer who donated the books as rejected [lions charity event]
the gentlemans hobby, even royalty were buying lathes!

You could go broke buying the myriad of accessories for that lathe!

Unfortunately,the lathe and accessories are prettier than most of the stuff that was made with those lathes(unless you're really into Gothic.)

Back a number of years ago, i think it was "Fine Woodworking mag" that had an article about this lathe, that a father and son had built a copy of. They had machined the parts etc for it.

That's quite a machine.

It would be very interesting to see it operating. These machines demonstrate the early concepts of the mechanization of production. Each single motion and the ability to repeat that motion........

The machine is worth the asking price. It is historically very important and I hope it finds a good home. And at that price I'm sure it will.
