Default tig welding with arc rods

So I want to weld some steel bushings in a casting, but I want more precision with my weld than I get with arc. Can I use ni-rod arc rods with my tig welder? If so do I need to remove the coating on the rods or will it help with the weld. These bushings are press fit so the weld is just some added security to hold them in.

Or maybe I would be better off bronzing. The bushings are 1" x 1 1/4" so there is not a lot of room for my shaky arc welding skills.

Sure, I've done it -- no problem. Knock the flux off

Thanks Lazlo, I'll give it a shot.
