Rene Lajoinie's article has a couple points that I am curious about and I can clarify for others. The first is the angle to set for cutting threads is not 26 degrees for standard V threads, it is 29-1/2 degrees from perpendicular to the lathe centerline. Cutting threads with the lathe running in reverse is a good idea for several reasons, 1: no worry about disengaging the halfnuts and getting the tool out of the cut before hitting the shoulder, 2: The lead screw normally gets much less use cutting left hand threads, therefore is more accurate on the right flank of the leadscrew threads, 3: The cutting tool can be simply turned upside down and the chips then drop off instead of piling up on the tool.
