Default Pi, errr, Diameter Tape Makers

I have a Pi Tape brand diameter tape, the kind that starts out 1/2 inch thick but the reading areas are each 1/4" thick and offset from each other to avoid errors.

I recently saw a picture of a diameter tape that functioned more like a belt buckle; the whole tape was about 1/2 inch thick, but the reading area formed a hollow square that you thread the 'tail' of the tape through. It looked like it might be a lot easier to use than the one I already have.

Problem is, I have no idea who made it and I can't find it in the google - which, I'm assuming, is a function of my ineptitude more than anything else.

Anyone seen or possess such a thing? I really need to go buy one. Really, I need it.

I have one that is 1/4 inch wide with the offset only 1/4 inch also. This is only a 7 inch diameter max tape. On this short a tape it works fine, on a longer one it could be a pain. The brand is Collins Phillips Company. Mine is so old the tape container does not list a web site.

When I was teaching I had the students build/draw a "belt buckle type" out of paper and then laminated them. They were much easier to use.

At one point in time, www.reidtool.com sold pi tapes. i don't know whether they still do, or what kind they are.

Yeah, that's almost exactly the one that I have now... where the scales are on thinner widths of the tape. What I'm looking for is the 'belt buckle' type where the tape threads through a window in a widened section of the tape... like a belt through a buckle.
