Default Wide flat belt conveyor pully

    Hi guys,

I need to make 2- 24" wide flat belt pulleys or rollers, 1 driver the other an idler. I intend to make it out of flat bar welded to hubs on each end because of it carries dampish dirt and don't want the rollers to pack up. Very little weight but a very dirty environment. I could mill a crown on the flat bar before welding.

My questions are to crown the middle or not, if so then how much?

    Thanks,
    Abner

Yes it should be crowned. how much is a subject of much discussion but generally only very slightly. More important is that both ends have the same effective diameter and are well aligned. The crown must be slightly larger diameter than both ends.

If using flat bar segments why mill them? Just bend in a very slight curve.

If you want some more detailed accurate information I can give my brother in law a call. He has been in the conveyor business for decades.

Exactly, Just setup a jig to bend em with a center point and a 'stop' point.

Yes they will all spring back, but thats why you have a stop point, you stop bending at that point and let them spring back to hopefuly the same bend.

Typical crown on drive rolls that size is 1/8" per foot.
