    Question Dial Caliper reviews

    Hello ,
I just broke my dial caliper. Now looking for a replacement and do not want to break the bank.

Enco shows enough to get me confused. I have no idea what manufacturer would be the best value.

    Thank you,

    Not SPI

Get the Mitutoyo, you will not be dissapointed.

Mitutoyo has a digital that is cheaper than their dial and is very good too.

My two cents worth would be to consider a Brown and Sharpe dial caliper. I've had a 6" one for years and it's still accurate when checked with Jo blocks.

Their not exactly cheap, But for digital. Buy the Mitutoyo solar powered ones. They are worth far more than what they cost. I'd have to think that calipers are probably the most highly used tool for almost anyone here. You may as well get good, dependable and accurate. Mitutoyo or Starrett for the dial type. I have no experience with the Brown & Sharpe's though.

I like my 6" Brown and Sharpe dial caliper more than my Mitutoyo and Starrett, although all of them are very good.

    Michael,
As I said, I've never even handled a B&S caliper. Since you've got experience with all three brands, Then no doubt your correct. But my Mitutoyo solar digitals are the very best set of calipers I've ever had my hands on. In fact I don't have any B&S equipment in my shop yet. But will have in a couple of weeks.

Why is it that you can't destroy a $19.95 caliper, on purpose, no matter what you do to it, and you hardly ever drop one, but as soon as you buy a $100 caliper you'll destroy it in 6 months?? I found my neighbor's Mitutoyo the other day on the road just up from his house, smashed and caked with mud, if it had been a Harbor freight special it would have been fine.
Guy at work smashed a week old Mitutoyo, K&T mill table power feeds show no mercy.
    Great metalworking project

I went digital over 15 years ago and have bought exactly 3 pair of 8" Mitutoyo digimatic in that time.Would have been only two pair, but somebody stole one pair. These are in commercial use,not homeshop. They only thing you have to be careful of is getting them wet or doused with coolant.

So I'm not recommending any of the dial calipers.
I just need one more tool, just one!
