    Default windows 7 issue??

All- I have an issue going on with my computer/windows 7.
A lot of times, but not all the time, when I open up a window to view files, it will
crash, with a warning saying windows explorer has stopped working.
It gives me two options: "check online for a solution and close the program"
or "close the program" either one just closes the program with no help.

What gives? anyone ever seen anything like this? If so, what can be done about this?

    Thanks- Sid

    That is terrible advice.

Have you done all your updates lately?

Or try going backwards to a recovery point to where things were working ok.

I have seen it occasionally in the last couple of months. Never saw it until then since I upgraded to Windows 7 shortly after it came out. First time it happened, I ran PC Tools registry cleaner and it fixed the problem. Couple of days ago, it happened again and I logged off and back on and that fixed it.

I suspect something is wrong with one of the updates Microsoft put out a couple of months ago. Until then Windows 7 had been completely trouble free on my machine.

I have had great success with my computer since I stoped updating things that where not broken. Seems every time I do let something update its a horrable mistake. the GUI will be changed, the program will crash or it won't do the most basic features I used to use it for.

Click the Start Orb > All Programs > Accessories.
Right click Command Prompt, select Run as administrator.
If you get a security notice, just click OK.

This will open a command window with a blinking cursor.
At the cursor, type the following (without quotes): "sfc /scannow"

This will attempt to repair system programs and dlls plus verify registry entries. It will run 2-5 minutes depending on your system. Report back what it says after finishing. To close the command window, click the X.

Do NOT just arbitrarily run Registry cleaners or organizers. This does more harm than good in Windows 7. If you download and run with the default settings, many of these programs will delete needed entries in the registry.
