Default Inside taper on an L-1 spindle

I have figured out that the spindle on my lathe Standard Modern is L-1, but none of the charts I have found dimension the inside taper.

I have a 5MT live center laying around that is way to small.

The open end of the spindle measures 2.34". Can I safely assume that is a 6MT that is a little small so that it projects through the dog plate?

6MT tooling is starting to get expensive, so I don't want to buy the wrong center if there is some other odd taper.

I do not know the answer to your question but you can get a pretty good idea of the rate of taper by seeing how far a round sharp edged cylinder goes down the hole. From the hole diameter at the end, the diameter of the measuring cylinder, and the depth the cylinder goes in, a little math will give you the taper per inch. Those dimensions should identify the type of taper. As long as the taper per inch is correct, a center should work if the inserted depth is satisfactory.

Mount a dti on the toolpost, start it into the bore and zero it. Move the carriage in by a convenient distance; say .500" - .750" and read the deflection of the indicator. A little calculation will tell you the exact taper of the hole...

Half angle is 8 degrees, 17 minutes and 50 seconds.

Same angle on all the L series

Scrap that, mis read the post, though you wanted the outside angle, brain fart, past bed time, not enough alcohol in the blood stream.
