Default Latest Project - Rifle Benchrest

I've been wanting a new rifle benchrest but what i liked i couldn't afford (retired) and what i could afford.... i didn't like. So, looked around the web, found 3 or 4 i did like, printed some pictures. Then, scrounged around the shop found almost of the materials required in stock. Now i have the pictures, the machinery, and the desire (probably a little short in ability though).

Made a few sketches and spent a lot of time sitting at the workbench pondering "how the heck do i make this part from what material i have in stock.

Fired up the mill and lathe and here is the results. I also decided to add some interchangable brass parts (for the aesthetic effect) and a carrying case for the brass parts and the interchagable feet (both rubber pads and tapered steel).

    Total investment.....$51.46.

Wow, that is awesome. a beautiful bit of machining that is . My bench rest is a denim pillow filled with shot that the wife of a friend of mine sewed up for me for a birthday many years ago.

Sweet looking! I'd say your ability is coming along nicely. Of course now you will be running out of excuses if the groups are too large...

What does the sliding part with the green handle do, is it a stop for the buttstock?

    Thumbs up

Very, Very nice. A lot of clever design work went into that. But your a long ways from "short in ability".

Great job! Check out "the viper" on you tube. He builds those as well as posting machine tube traing videos.

Mixdenny: that green rubber piece is actually the adjustable forearm stop, and as usual thanks to everyone for all the good comments.

Beautiful! I love the finish and the attention to detail. That applies to both the tool and the box.
