Help My cross slide does not go back on.

Help. I think I mucked up something. I was measuring the travel on my cross slide on a logan 12" lathe and it ran off the screw. I pushed in off and when I tried to bring it back on the screw it was tight and so I gave it a shove and end of the screw bumped the nut under the cross slide. Now when I try to screw it back on it goes start but then becomes tight. I think I mucked up the beginning portion of the threads on the cross slide. The thread on the screw looks okay. How do you fixed this? Do I have to remove the cross slide to fixed the threads? How do you fixed the threads?

Sorry guys.... Got it fixed. Had some stuff stuck in the nut.
