Many thanks to those folks of this generation who gave us so much.

Fantastic photography - we're fortunate they survived. What a story they tell.

Beautiful collection. Our fathers and mothers and grandparents met the challenge. God bless them, one and all.

4X5 Kodachrome transparencies were the high definition photo media of the era. Only surpassed by 8x10 plates. They have a certain look that is just not possible with smaller format film or digital cameras. Not just the resolution, but the color, the look is just beautiful. I love them.

    great pictures!

I marvel at the combination of sharpness and depth of field. Not having used a view camera, I'm guessing the large format makes it possible to use a very high speed film with small aperture .....and because there so little enlargement you still get great resolution?

These images have a presence and vitality that is striking - very compelling.

Do I remember correctly that the last lab in the U.S. processing Kodachrome stock closed the developing line in 2010?

    Default Shorpy

The blog photos were pulled from the Shorpy site. http://www.shorpy.com/
Shorpy digitizes photos from the Library of Congress from the Civil War to the 1970's & 80s.
On the right hand side of the Shorpy site you can select subjects from a list. This is from the 4x5 Kodachomes.

    On topic:

    Plus you can order prints.

What, in particular, is special about the color palette, and is there a photoshop filter for that?
