Looking to buy new 6 jaw chuck, any knowledge appriciated

I am looking at 6" 6 Jaw, two piece jaws, with adjust through and a D1-4 backplate.
I do my own gunsmithing and my own handi man work.
The 3 jaw that came with my PM1236 lathe is now .003" out since I tried to "improve" it.

It looks like the cost with D1-4 back plate is:

I have the Bison 6 jaw you are looking at. Very nice; you get what you pay for. Their 6 jaw are still made in Poland. The genuine back plates are spendy; it may be possble to find "an import" thick enough and turn your own, saving about $150. I was lucky to find a genuine Bison "used".

I particularly like the large adjusters that Bison uses for the adjust tru. Some other I've used are not nearly as "solid" feeling.

Nate dagley uses the gator chucks on his true bore alignment system.....the fact that he doesn't give a rip what a tool costs leads me to believe the chuck is a good one.

I am curious why the OP doesn't mention a standard 3-jaw chuck with perhaps "shop-made" soft laws.

A light cut will soon get the jaw bores (re)aligned to the head-stock axis.
