I have to strongly disagree with this statement. For the most (largest) part it is the students who are not doing THEIR job. Virtually all the teachers and instructors I knew in my 23 years of teaching were total professionals who made every effort to impart knowledge to their students.
If the students did not choose to make the effort to LEARN that should not be put on the teachers.
In education today (and for many years) the onus is placed totally on the teachers for student failure. It is never the students fault if they fail to succeed!
I would not want to be starting a teaching career today, the frustration and aggravation is just too great.

agreed, unfortunately, students are also employees. If the students did not choose to make the effort to LEARN that should not be put on the teachers.
The bulk of the staff at work are students, mostly university age, and I swear unless they are told to do something directly each and every time, the choice seems to be do nothing.
More and more the last months a specific task can be given and even if a near identical task comes up within hours or days it does not get done, I can only assume the logic is to mitigate fault if something goes wrong.
Try spending 30 minutes trying to explain to a co-worker that "TENTHS" in shop-speak is just slang for TEN-THOUSANDTHS of an inch. (.0001)
I felt like beating my head against the wall.
This genius had 30 years of experience working with the Union at General Dynamics, and he still couldn't understand what I was telling him.
A few years ago in Waterton Lakes, a restaurant refused to sell us breakfast because the computer in the till was down even though we offered to pay in cash with a healthy tip![]()
But if you think reading a tape measure is hard, ask someone to box a compass.
Not pointing fingers here but...
Someone will ask a simple math question on this forum and the next few posts will provide internet links to "calculators"....![]()

not sure what is worse, the state of the students above (making the assumption the teachers comments were largely accurate) or the teacher thinking putting said comments on a blog would not cause her own career demise
Not totally current news, since my middle son will be 29 this coming month, but when he was 16 and working in a local shoe store for gas and date money, he was able to do addition, subtraction, discounts, and sales tax in his head, 100% correctly. I was impressed...math in school bored him because of the way it was taught. Needless to say, his boss was impressed, too.
