Oh yes, there is one for sale for about £100 just down the road but this one looks like it has never been used.

I know the shop where this one is for sale and he does tend to price things rather optimistically!

    Here is another one:

Bidding on this one stands at about £140 but I expect it will go higher.

Hmmmm...... I suppose I could buy both and that would put the price of the "newish" one down to the average of the two....... what do your reckon?

Unimats have proven to be a good investment. They're not making anymore, they are nice machines, and if you not crazy on the buy side you'll sell it for more than you paid. I've had one since i was 12 and just last week used it for turning some 1/8" brass parts....come on AB, you're not really here looking for info on the lathe, you're just looking for justification - there's a couple for you

Price of those is entirely dependent on the array of accessories included, I've seen them go for 1600 on ebay....with everything included. I once sold just an accessory package (no lathe but all the stuff) for 1700, it included everything they made except for the threading attachment and dividing head. That one looks bare; for just the lathe I'd say it should 275-400 depending on condition, which looks excellent.

A small lathe like that is always handy, even if you never use it.

If you want it for nostalgic reasons or as an investment, for resale at a later date, OK but if you really want a small lathe to use then there are newer, better lathes out there probably cheaper too.

Here's one that looks very well equipped in Vancouver, which is a bit of a machine tool desert. http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/nv...150628048.html
