Default Quick Change Tool Post for Atlas 12x36 Lathe

What quick change tool post is suitable for an Atlas? the slot in the compound slide is kind of small.

I'm not familiar with Atlas lathes, but if the swing is 12", then I'm pretty sure you'd want to get the BXA (and/or 200 series) QCTP.
The 'Tee Nut' that goes into the compound slot will need to be machined to fit, but that's normal.
I had to make a special nut to fit my old Jet lathe.

AXA/100 or BXA/200 sizes work equally well. If you turn a lot of larger diameters along the length BXA is a bit larger with slightly greater possibility of the holder getting in the way.
BXA will take a 5/8" square tool, where AXA only 1/2"

+1 on the BXA (200) plus I'd go with the wedge type rather than the piston

I built mine from scratch, i cut the slots to take 1/2" tooling like the AXA. Atlas 10x48" your 12" should be nearly identical besides a taller compound.
Couple pics for visual. I believe my tool post is about the size of a AXA.

The factor to consider in choosing AXA or BXA is the spindle axis height above the compound. On that basis Aloris suggests the AXA. I agreed after I put an AXA on my 12" Atlas.

It's only a crapy Atlas lathe. No, really, it is. Get the AXA.

Consider the AXA wedge from "tools4cheap" - I recently got my 2nd set from him and they are especially nice!
If everything seems to be going well, you have obviously overlooked something........
