I have gas welded aluminum before and he makes it look easy. The problem is that unlike steel, aluminum shows no indication of how hot it is. It also takes very good torch control to be able to get an area hot enough to weld but cool enough that it doesn't collapse. I love my TIG welder.

    Thanks for posting the video.

Well, when I looked at this post, I said "no way am I going to watch a 42 minute video.
    Man, was I wrong
This guy is highly skilled and he proves it by using the simplest tools.
I couldn't shut it off. I did miss most of his comment due to a hearing problem I have and his slight accent

Thanks for a trip seeing a real craftsman

    PS
Pay particular attention to the 26 to 28 minute part where he explains the heating of the seam and why the joint is made so.

We were all laughing in the moment. lol

I would like to know how to build a torpedo type tank though like the water witches. Now that I can see inside the tank I may only see one weld on the one end like a cap.

suppose you could just beat the panels but guessing metal spinning (granted relative to something like an airplane wing tank, quite small...still...)

Gas welded aluminum like a pro.
I would have a blob on the floor
and lots and lots of cuss words
I am sure. Hell, sometimes the
cuss words fly when I am TIG
    welding. Tung in the puddle
    again. Augh!

Thanks for posting the video, amazing good work ! Gas welding of aluminum was the common method back before TIG. Think of all the WWII aircraft components and various fluid tanks, all aluminum, that were gas welded.... many I suspect by newly trained "Rosy the Riveter" gals.
