Ajax milling machine

Hi there, I have been lurking around this bulletin board for a while now and thought it is about time I participated a bit. I am located in Australia and have a good quality Tiawanese lathe plus a not so good Chinese Mill plus an old old Pallas universal mill which doesn't get used.

Anyway I have the oportunity to purchase an English built Ajax mill with vertical head and was wanting to know if they are good or bad machines.

Brilliant machines.
Built like a brick ****e house.
Even on a bad day with a blunt 1/2" cutter you can cut a Bridgeport into 8 pieces in less time that it takes to get the power down feed working properly on the Bridgy.

Main things is the head is massive on these, decent taper, no wimpy R8 and usually 4 or 5 HP on tap

I'm afraid your wrong Mr Stevenson. I had a look at the mill today and I'd say it could cut a bridgeport into 10 pieces using a blunt 6mm cutter before you could even blink, wink or think.
