Try this, down here in good old NZ our govt saw fit to get rid of our fighter wing of the RNZAF , only Skyhawkes but our contribution all the same. Now the Warbirds fly their collection of craft so the Navy can practice combat. Polititions aye? who would have them if they had the choice?

Well, I wouldn't worry too much. NZ likely has treaties with the US and if we pulled the ungrateful French out of the fire twice, you can rest assured we will help you nice folks if needed. Of course the stupid, ungrateful French and the rest of the world will protest it and provide help to the aggressors.

Just got done watching a show about a Canadian Jet called the AVROE ARROW, the project was cancelled in the late 50's or early 60's with a loss of 50,000 jobs counting subsidiaries. Was the fastest fighter for the time and the Government yanked the plug from it and ended up killing off the AVROE company... thought was missles could do everything the fighter could and cheaper. Politics at work!!! and what the bought to replace it wasn't worth what they threw away by a long shot.

Alcova, you forgot to mention the role of the American government in all this, they didn't want the best jet fighter in the world built in Canada, and all the supporting aircraft industry.

A lot of the Engineers and technichans from this project ended up working for NASA, and all the american aircraft companies.

In short, America did to Canada what Japan, India, China, ... is now doing to America.
