    Try buying good quality chisels even handsaws, it's difficult.

    Grizzly (hate those F'n bastards) sell some really nice chisel sets. I'm not sure if the still do, but I bought a few sets back in ~2008 that are very impressive. zero grain and perfectly ground. They were so sharp I never needed anything more than a tap of your palm to notch out large mortise and tenons in oak/maple or cherry. I used one set for about a year and never needed sharpening. Never had a chisel set that good before.
