    You may laugh, but I actually did this on my small lathe. He said he had to run power? Solves that as well, if it isnít a frequent thing.

    How much is a VFD for a 7.5 hp motor.?
    I am thinking around 750 for a used RPC..

    300-500 usd should get you a new brand name vector control VFD.

    And if the supply is very limited in any case you can get away with smaller than 7.5hp VFD.
    This probably depends on model but the one I'm familiar (ABB ACS800) would work fine with 4hp VFD and 7.5hp motor combo.

    Edit: If you are asking about substituting RPC with VFD you might need to spend more to get 7.5HP out of the motor.

    Just priced out Vecter 10 HP VFD last week in Edmonton $960 cdn.,was checking out for 5 hp 230 volt 3ph.They said you have to double size when converting from 1 ph, maybe that over kill.
